10/05/2012 A few more are needed for this visit. A booking form is on the Documents page or contact Sarah Sheridan for more details.

Morning at the “Turner & the Elements” exhibition which the Daily Telegraph critic described as “utterly uplifting”: 88 works by JMW Turner including Snow Storm- Steam Boat off A Harbour’s Mouth supposedly created after Turner had tethered himself to the mast of a ship in a storm to experience the full severity of nature’s wrath at first hand. Lunch (not included) can be taken in the Gallery café.

Quex Park is a unique country park of 250 acres on the Isle of Thanet. Within the Park is Quex House built in 1805, a bell tower (Waterloo Tower) built 1819 with its extremely rare secular peal of 12 bells. The Park also has a Guntower which was built as a sea lookout post and a clocktower built circa 1820 with a pre-reformation hour bell. However the jewel in the crown is the Powell-Cotton Museum of African and Asian cultures: ethnographical exhibits and many other items of cannon, weaponry, porcelain and fine furniture and much else besides. Its natural history collections which include a taxidermy collection of mainly African wildlife are of world-class importance as a scientific resource.
